La. 87 between the Katy Bridge and Oxford Loop was closed for several hours Thursday after an 18-wheel fuel truck ran off the road and overturned. First responders from the Franklin Fire Department spent 30 minutes extricating the driver from the cab which had broken away from the trailer and landed upside down on the opposite side of the roadway. While the extrication was ongoing FFD Chief Peggy Davis said Baldwin firefighters stopped and contained the leakage from the fuel tank. The tank was later unloaded of the fuel before being uprighted. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Davis said her department was on scene for 2 hours an 20 minutes following the report of the accident at 3:36 p.m.
