Students at Franklin Senior High School were evacuated just after 10 a.m. this morning when smoke came out of the heating system into the cafeteria, according to city Fire Chief Peggy Davis. Franklin Fire Department personnel on the scene determined that one of three motors on the heating system had burned out. They were able to shut that unit down and return the other two to service, providing heat to allow students back into the school. Also over the weekend, a fire Sunday morning at about 4:30 a.m. on Gumpoint Lane, below, was fully-involved when fire personnel arrived at the scene. The structure was destroyed, and Davis said no clear cause has yet been determined, though there were heater units in the center of the house where the blaze was thought to have begun. None of the occupants were injured, and the fire is still under investigation.
